Various Vein Conditions
At the North Georgia Vein & Aesthetics we specialize in treating vein disorders because up to 60% of all Americans, suffer from some type of vein disease. But, just because vein disorders are common doesn’t mean you shouldn’t worry about them.
Varicose veins result from the pooling of blood caused by a decreased flow of blood to the heart from the leg veins. Spider veins are a type of varicose vein, with size being the main difference between the two.
Are varicose veins dangerous?
Untreated varicose veins can be dangerous because the blood that is pooling in these veins can clot. When varicose veins clot, the condition is called superficial phlebitis and it is usually very painful, but not necessarily dangerous.
When should I be concerned about varicose veins?
If a person has varicose veins, and has any of these symptoms and signs, see a health care professional. Inflammation, discoloration, or ulceration of the skin or swelling of the calf or leg is more typical of problems related to the deeper veins, especially a blood clot.
